27 Jun Basildon knowledge tested in 70th anniversary quiz
To celebrate Basildon New Town’s 70th Anniversary, Pitsea Leisure Centre hosted a special Basildon at 70 Birthday Quiz on Friday 21 June 2019.
The sell-out event was attended by 19 teams including the Mayor of Basildon, Cllr David Burton-Sampson and Deputy Mayor of Basildon, Cllr Derrick Fellowes.
Quiz goers took part in 11 entertaining rounds, including musical hits from Essex-born musicians and anagrams of Basildon’s iconic locations.
Congratulations to the winning team, Mental Block, who received a special Basildon 70 trophy as well as a £100 cash prize. A wooden spoon with the 70th logo was the ‘booby prize’ for the team, Golden Oldies, that secured last place.
There was a charity raffle on the night which raised £387 which will go towards Cancer Research UK, St Luke’s Hospice, The Jo Cox Foundation and The Mayor’s Community Foundation.
The Mayor of Basildon, Councillor David Burton-Sampson, said: “I would like to thank everyone who came along to not only show off their Basildon knowledge for the 70th anniversary, but to also raise money for charity.
“It really was a fun night with an atmosphere of friendly competition. My team will definitely be doing a bit more revising before the next one!”
