Basildon Council step up efforts to tackle flytipping

05 Sep Basildon Council step up efforts to tackle flytipping

Basildon Council’s commitment to tackling incidents of flytipping and dumped rubbish has been given a boost as additional Street Scene Enforcement and Education Officers get to work.

The Corporate Resources Committee agreed in July to increase the number of officers from three to five in an attempt to educate residents and improve the cleanliness of communities.

The new recruits, who started their roles two weeks ago, will focus their efforts on areas where there are persisant problems in an attempt to keep them free of litter. They will first aim to educate residents on the importance of recycling and correct disposal of waste, before taking enforcement action against offenders.

The council has also invested £10,000 into a CCTV trial at locations where the largest and most frequent fly-tips take place.
