28 Nov Basildon Council acquires company that owns Acorn House
Basildon Council has successfully acquired the company that owns Acorn House in Basildon town centre.
The company already has permission and contracts in place to convert the building into 94 apartments – mainly of one bedroom, with some two-bedrooms.
Leader of Basildon Council Councillor Gavin Callaghan has welcomed the opportunity to provide much needed quality housing in the heart of the town centre.
He said: “We have an acute shortage of one and two-bedroom apartments for people in housing need in our borough. The opportunity to acquire Acorn House was one not to be missed if we are to quickly increase the supply of these properties and make them available to local people in need.”
