Award winning Colchester business celebrates two decades at the top of their industry

29 Oct Award winning Colchester business celebrates two decades at the top of their industry

An award-winning family run business from Colchester which boasts celebrities and leading British businesses as customers is this month celebrating its 20th anniversary.

Premier Signs & Displays Ltd., owed by brothers Scott and Grant Thorburn, began life in October 1998 in a 150 square ft old boiler room at the Cowdray Centre. From its humble beginnings, Premier Signs is now one of the leading signage and branding businesses in the UK, with customers including the BBC, ITV, Harvey Nichols, haart and Nestle to name a few. Scott and Grant have also carried out work for celebrity clients such as Danny John-Jules, Jon Culshaw, Tim Westwood, several footballers and even Arab royalty.

During the 20 years that Premier Signs have been in business the industry has changed massively with the introduction of digital printing and digital displays, and the effects that can be achieved are amazing. The team have undertaken training and testing to become accredited 3M AVW’s (Authorised Vehicle Wrappers) and have gone on to become highly recognised within the industry, as winners of 3M Wrap Stars and were awarded with an accreditation of Highly Commended status by the British Sign & Graphics Association.

Wrapping doesn’t just stop at vehicles as the Premier Signs team have gone on to wrap a variety of different objects such as life size cows, home appliances, furniture, lifts, mobility scooters and a variety of beer pumps for well-known brands such as Tetley’s, Becks & Blackthorn, and have transformed rooms by wrapping walls, floors and ceilings to bespoke designs.

With this family business going from strength to strength the brothers had to move from their original business premises at the Cowdray Centre and now operate from a larger 3000 square ft unit in Whitehall Industrial Estate to enable them to build dedicated dust free wrapping bays with specialist heating and lighting and now employee 9 members of staff.

To coincide with their 20th anniversary Premier Signs have launched a new website and social media platforms specifically for vehicle wrapping. Their first post on Facebook was of a rose gold chrome wrap on a Range Rover Velar and this went viral, reaching more than 1 million people within two weeks and is still spreading fast.
