Author returns to primary school 60 years later

31 May Author returns to primary school 60 years later

A little girl who dreamed of becoming an author returned to her primary school 60 years later to share her published books.

Author JE Narracott – Joan – visited pupils at Roydon Primary Academy, in Roydon, to tell them about her ambitions as a ten-year-old to write children’s books.

Having contacted to the school to offer a donation of her books, she was invited in to meet the children.

Head of school Anna Myatt said: “Joan spoke to pupils about what the school was like when she was here and how much it had changed. She told them about her dream of always wanting to be an author and how she would think of stories while a pupil at Roydon.

“Now, 60 years later, after a book series for adults published under her pen name, she has finally fulfilled her dream.”

Tilly Millpepper and the Wishing Stone, Tilly Millpepper and the Enchanted Book and Tilly Millpepper and the Winged Unicorn are the three stories in the Tilly Millpepper trilogy.

Reading ambassadors were given copies of Joan’s books for the school.

Mrs Myatt said: “There is nothing quite like school author visits to get children reading, writing and understanding the creative process. Meeting authors makes the writing process, books and the authors themselves accessible and real to students.

“It was also a fantastic opportunity for the children to learn about the school’s history.”
