16 Jun The attack on Jo Cox MP should have never happened !! Writes Gregory Remington
I have for a long time campaigned on greater security for local MPs and councillors alike and I have often been laughed at and mocked but I think its time England adopted the American security protocol for political figures. We owe it to the brave men and women that represent our constituency to be protected by armed officers where necessary.
It deeply saddened me to read on the cowardly attack on Jo Cox in her own constituency by a lunatic who believes politics can be combated by violence. I think increased protection of our local MPs would also mean greater protection for the general public as a whole as any official engagement that a politician attends would benefit from such a range of security.
I find this to be a very sad day for England despite our glowing success at the Euro’s but its my hope and wish that we will all open our eyes and begin to think of such a transition.
If the police and the Diplomatic Protection Group aren’t able to take on this job this should be something that is subcontracted through a private security firm, lest we forget these politicians are always fathers, mothers, brothers, sisters, sons and daughters who deserve the freedom to do their job without fear.
