13 Apr Animal rights activist confirms plan to disrupt Grand National
AN animal rights group has confirmed that it will try to stop the Grand National on Saturday but refused to outline its exact plans.
Animal Rising spokesman Ben Newman told GB News: “Yes, so horse racing is wrong and we can do so much better than using animals for food or fun, and we just don’t need to.
“We’re inviting everyone to come down at 9:30am on the 15th to Aintree racecourse and hope to stop the race. Come on down if you’d like to know more.
“Protest is a fairly common thing in a democracy and there’s nothing new about it. We’ll be using our bodies and that’s all there is to it really.”
In a discussion with Andrew Pierce and Dawn Neesom, he continued: “We shouldn’t be using animals for our fun like horse racing or in any other way.
“We have no plans to be at the King’s coronation but in principle horses shouldn’t be being used for that either.”
Dene Stansall of Animal Aid added: “I agree totally with Ben. 59 Horses have been killed at Grand National meetings since the year 2000.
“That’s 59 horses’ lives lost at the cost of entertainment and gambling and we at Animal Aid believe that that is wrong, and that the Grand National is something that should be confined to the history books because it is basically animal cruelty.
“Anyone who bets on the Grand National, whether naively or consciously of what goes on, are actually supporting that and are supporting horse killing.”
