27 Mar Amy Winehouse Foundation provides new grant to Haven House
The Amy Winehouse Foundation has awarded Haven House Children’s Hospice a new grant of £14,300 meaning families will be able to access music therapy at home.
Since November 2014, the Foundation has part-funded Haven House’s music therapy service with sessions provided in the ‘Amy Winehouse Foundation Music Room’ at the hospice’s Holistic Care Centre in Woodford Green.
The new grant will allow Haven House to fund a Junior Music Therapist to provide music therapy ‘at home’, for two days per week, for a year.
Roxanne Scott, Music Therapist at Haven House, said: “Through the incredible generosity of the Amy Winehouse Foundation we are able to extend choice to our families and provide music therapy at home as well as in our Holistic Care Centre.
“Each year we support more and more families, however there will always be some who prefer to receive care at home for their children.
“To have the continued support of the Amy Winehouse Foundation is truly wonderful and this new grant enables us to reach more children through music therapy. Without this therapeutic input, some of these children’s voices may never be heard.”
For children with life-limiting conditions, music therapy can help address their developmental needs, focusing on increasing communication, interaction and social skills and enhancing physical skills and promoting overall wellbeing.
Music therapy is also available to young people with cancer and siblings of Haven House children, where song writing and composition can be used for self-expression and as a safe outlet to explore emotions.
