23 Aug Amazon’s #Tilbury warehouse plans a welcome boost to the county’s economy
Amazon’s plans to create 1,500 new jobs in the county by building a state of the art ‘Fulfilment Centre’ in Tilbury have been welcomed by Essex County Council.
The new warehouse, which will be the 13th the online retailer has opened in the UK, will open in the spring of 2017 creating 1,500 new permanent, full time jobs.
Initial discussions with Amazon to identify a suitable location and property solution were facilitated by INVEST Essex, Essex County Council’s inward investment team who promote Essex as a prime UK business solution location to international and UK companies.
Welcoming the news Cllr Kevin Bentley, Cabinet Member for Economic Growth and Partnerships said: “It’s great news that Amazon has chosen Essex as a place to do business with its new warehouse at the Port of Tilbury in Thurrock.
“With 1,500 jobs to be created next year at the new warehouse, the move will be a fantastic boost to economic growth in the county. I’m really pleased that INVEST Essex, our inward investment team at Essex County Council, has been able to support Amazon to find this location and show once again that Essex means business!.”
Permanent employees working in the new warehouse will receive competitive rates of pay, which rise to £9 an hour after two years, as well as a comprehensive benefits package, including private medical insurance, a company pension plan, life assurance, income protection, subsidised meals and an employee discount.
