A clinically validated Alzheimer’s diagnostic blood test is now available privately to residents across Essex, thanks to a new partnership between UK-based diagnostics provider Advance Tests and local health service Swift Blood Tests.
The test, LucentAD® Complete, is already in clinical use in the United States and Essex is only the second location in the UK outside London to have this test made available. In an Essex first, patients across Essex can now access the test in their own homes, with experienced phlebotomists from Swift Blood Tests visiting them at home to carry out the procedure.
Designed for people with symptoms of Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI), the groundbreaking test helps determine whether these symptoms are likely due to Alzheimer’s, representing a significant step forward in the wider fight against dementia; a disease that affects more than 1 million people in the UK. The test analyses five biomarkers in the blood to assess whether Alzheimer’s-related changes are present, and whether the patient may be eligible for recently approved treatments.
The test is delivered via a standard blood draw. There are no waiting-lists to get a test taken and no referrals from GPs are necessary. The test costs £695, significantly less than traditional imaging such as PET scans and lumbar punctures.
LucentAD Complete is already part of standard clinical practice in the US, where it is supported by multiple peer-reviewed studies and included under Medicare coverage.
This launch comes at a time when diagnostic and treatment breakthroughs in Alzheimer’s are aligning, with the MHRA having announced the approval of 2 new treatments for Alzheimer’s, offering real options to those diagnosed early. Early detection also enables patients to take meaningful lifestyle steps – such as changes to diet, exercise, sleep, and cognitive activity – that may help delay symptom progression. It provides space to plan, inform family, and make decisions while still in control.
Anyone concerned about their own memories or those of their loved ones can book directly with Advance Tests. Healthcare providers can also book appointments on their patients’ behalf.
Joanne Maclean, Founder and Owner of Swift Blood Tests, said:
We’re proud to bring this advanced diagnostic technology to people across Essex in a way that fits into their lives. Being able to offer this test in the comfort of a person’s home means more people can access it – without the stress of travel, waiting rooms, or hospital visits. It’s a step forward for accessible local care.
