13 Mar Aldi crowned best grocer for second time at Retail Week Awards
German retailer Aldi has been crowned the best grocer on the UK high street for the second year running at the prestigious Retail Week Awards sponsored by Salesforce.
Described by the panel of top judges as “truly loved”, the supermarket took home The Trax Best Grocer gong after beating off competition from fellow value retailers Lidl and Iceland, as well as the UK’s biggest grocer, Tesco. The judges also praised The Co-Op and awarded the retailer a Mark of Excellence in recognition.
The judges commented: “The food market in the UK is so saturated, we thought Aldi would flatline under the big four, but they haven’t. They continue to innovate and grow. They have disrupted every single part of the market from supply chain onwards. In this category, it really is hard to see past Aldi.
“Their shops look good. Their commitment to local sourcing is impeccable. They offer customers low prices, good value and a great shopping experience. Quite simply, Aldi ticks all the boxes.”
