Additional financial support available to help local businesses bounce back

07 Jul Additional financial support available to help local businesses bounce back

Further financial support is available to help local businesses affected by the Covid-19 pandemic in 2021/22.

The latest round of the government’s Covid Additional Relief Fund (CARF), which has allocated £1.5 billion to local authorities to support local businesses, has now been approved and aims to support business ratepayers who are not eligible for existing support linked to business rates.

Braintree District Council has identified around 600 businesses in the Braintree district that may be eligible for the relief and who will be contacted over the next few weeks inviting them to apply.

Businesses are being encouraged to check the eligibility criteria on our website www.braintree.gov.uk/helpforbusinesses to find out more about the scheme, its criteria and any exclusion that may apply.

Cllr Tom Cunningham, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Economic Growth at Braintree District Council, said: “Supporting businesses through this fund will help our local economy to bounce back from any hardships they have faced as a result of the pandemic.”

Cllr John McKee, Cabinet Member for Finance and Corporate Transformation at Braintree District Council, said: “We have nearly £3m in additional support to distribute to businesses affected by the pandemic, so I’d encourage local businesses who feel they may be eligible to apply as soon as they can so they can benefit from this funding.”
Braintree District Council has issued £56m million in grants to more than 10,000 businesses since the pandemic began in March 2020.
