ACL Essex launches free ‘You Can’ course for Essex residents

15 Aug ACL Essex launches free ‘You Can’ course for Essex residents

Adult community learning provider, ACL Essex, is helping residents of Essex step into a career in the public sector, thanks to the launch of a new free programme.

The ‘You Can’ programme is ideal for people looking to make a career switch, or for those looking to advance their career opportunities. Learners will be offered advice on career options in the public sector and find out how to match up their existing skillsets with positions in the public sector.

The new course also aims to provide Essex residents with useful information about public sector jobs, as well as demonstrating the range of positions on offer, such as marketing, media, HR training or IT. Current public sector employees will also be on-hand to offer advice based on their experiences.

The course will look at the transferrable skills needed to move into the public sector, as well as how to highlight these skills on a CV and in an interview. Learners will also get the opportunity to have a 1-2-1 information, advice and guidance session with an ACL or National Careers Service advisor to look at next steps.

Councillor Tony Ball, Essex County Council’s Cabinet Member for Education Excellence, Lifelong Learning and Employability says: “There are fantastic career opportunities within the public sector that enable people to make a real difference to Essex residents. The You Can project is designed to provide people with an understanding of these opportunities, the diverse range of roles available, and how your skills could be used to positively impact others.”

The first course starts 16 August and will take place online on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 09:30-13:30 and run for two weeks. Further courses will take place at selected ACL Essex centres across the county from mid-September.
