02 Mar 70 Basildon Heroes to celebrate 70th anniversary of the New Town
As part of Basildon New Town’s 70th anniversary, Basildon Council and Eastgate Shopping Centre are celebrating 70 years with 70 Basildon Heroes – and we need your nominations.
Our heroes can be individuals, businesses or community, voluntary, education, sports or cultural organisations. We’re looking for people or groups who have been instrumental in the development of Basildon over the past 70 years, from inspirational teachers to outstanding companies.
Councillor Kevin Blake, Deputy Leader of Basildon Council and Chairman of the Leisure, Culture and Environment Committee, said: “This year is more than just celebrating 70 years of Basildon New Town, it’s just as important to celebrate the people who in different ways have made significant contributions to its development and community.
“We’ve already had some nominations in which is great. I have a feeling the tough part is going to be the judging and sticking to just 70.”
Ian Clark, Manager of Eastgate Shopping Centre, added: “We are proud to be supporting 70 Basildon Heroes and the 70th anniversary throughout the year.
“Eastgate has been at the heart of the town centre for nearly 40 years and in the last few years we have evolved to be just as much about supporting our community as retail with the art gallery, Gateway FM and Motivated Minds all based here”.
Nominations of up to 500 words can be submitted in any of the following ways:

Our 70 Heroes will be selected by a judging panel so please include as much information as possible. Heroes will be announced throughout the year and will be featured in an exhibition in the Eastgate Shopping Centre so keep an eye out during your next visit.
