66% of women in their 60s feel the most confident about their looks, according to research

AGEING is a worry for a huge proportion of British women, but one that may be unnecessary – as new research has revealed women in their 60s feel the most confident in their looks.

A new survey of 1,000 British women, released by premium collagen supplement brand, SoBodyCo., has found that an impressive 66% of British women aged 60-69 years old claimed to feel confident in their appearance – which is more than any other age group, and significantly higher than those in their 20s.

This is despite the fact that most women (29%) say they had expected to feel most confident in their 20s – when in fact only 53% of this age group reported feeling confident about the way they look.

British women aged 70-79 were the second most confident bunch, with 57% claiming to feel this way about themselves.

This and the fact that almost 1 in 3 (31%) women claim to have felt more confident with themselves as they have got older will be welcome news for the 84% of women who claim to feel worried about ageing.

Although it does seem to take a little more work to feel good as we age, as 1 in 5 (20%) admit that as they have got older, they had to work harder to feel this way, but still say they feel better about themselves than they ever have.

Hazel Walker at SoBodyCo. commented: “It’s really uplifting to see how confidence changes as we age – and particularly to learn that British women’s confidence only seem to increase once they are past the core perimenopausal years. We can see from the data that a staggering proportion of British women are really concerned about ageing, but happily I think this will provide a lot of reassurance for those who are worried. Although people do have to work harder as they age, a huge proportion still feel better about themselves despite their advancing years.”

The survey also revealed a list of the female celebrities aged over 50 who British women are most inspired by, in terms of the way they look, and their health and fitness, with Jennifer Aniston (53 years old) topping the list, closely followed by Davina McCall (55) and Dame Helen Mirren (77).
