COLUMNIST: Religious Essex has failed the other 35% writes Megan Turner

18 Jun COLUMNIST: Religious Essex has failed the other 35% writes Megan Turner

I write this column as a mother, wife and fellow Christian who was proud to examine the results of the ONS census in 2011 which stated that just over 65% of Essex residence followed a religion with Christians holding a majority, the figure was at the time reportedly higher than the national average for England & Wales and was even reportedly a drop from the 77% recorded in 2001.

It pains me going through our local papers and listening to Essex news and this has somehow been filled with reports of hate crime, fraud, shambolic family affairs and a rise in young rebels – as Jesus’ 2nd coming draws nigh I want to urge all my Christian brothers and sisters reading this to take forth our directive from the book of Matthew and go and preach to all cities and towns in Essex.

The news this week included the Leigh-On-Sea charity fraudster, a woman threatened at knife point in Canvey, human remains found at Ingatestone station and Chelmsford Central’s public art being vandalised – the signs are everywhere, we don’t have much time ! Now is the time to be united and to work together to preach the message of the second coming of Christ.

Just ask yourself, since you reported your religion and became a part of the 65% in 2011 what have you done to try and be a positive influence in your local area ?

God bless,
Megan
