BBC National Short Story 2018 Award Finalists visit Romford school

25 Sep BBC National Short Story 2018 Award Finalists visit Romford school

The BBC National Short Story Award 2018 winner is announced next week and as part of the Award this year, the BBC have created a Student Critics Award with 40 schools across the UK participating.

As part of the initiative, sixth form students have been critiquing each of the 5 shortlisted stories – shadowing the official judges – and some of the shortlisted writers and judges from the Award are visiting a handful of schools in advance of next week’s announcement.

One of those schools is based in Essex!

On Thursday 27th September at 2.30pm, award winning performance poet, Dean Atta, will visit Romford Rush Green School. Romford, Essex to talk to participating students who have been put forward by their teacher specifically because they are having to resit their GCSEs and need something to inspire and motivate them.

This school is in a deprived area and Dean’s presence will hopefully inspire them to voice their opinions and pursue their dreams. https://www.firststory.org.uk/writers-schools/dean-atta/
