Basildon Hate Crime Panel develop new hate crime awareness project

21 Jun Basildon Hate Crime Panel develop new hate crime awareness project

Basildon residents were asked to share their views and experiences of hate crime as part of a project designed to understand levels of awareness within the borough.

Members of the Basildon Hate Crime Panel were out and about in Pitsea Market yesterday (Wednesday 20 June) as part of a community engagement exercise focused on encouraging better reporting of incidents.

A year-long pilot project – developed by Basildon Council in partnership with Essex Police, Basildon Billericay & Wickford Council for Voluntary Service (BBWCVS), Barnardo’s, Victim Support, Basildon’s Community Diversity Council, Community Safety and Transpire – was launched in October 2017 after statistics compiled by Essex Police indicated an increase in hate crime in the Pitsea South East area.
